Good Hair Boutique: A Glamorous Haven for Natural Hair Products and Protective Styles
Good Hair Boutique: A Beauty Supply Store with a Mission
Good Hair Boutique, a hair supply store in West Tarentum, is not your average beauty supply store. Owned by Misty Woody, the store caters to natural hair products and protective styles, offering a glamorous feel with products galore.
Woody, a white woman with three biracial children, started the business in 2020 during the pandemic. She realized the difficulty of finding quality Black hair care products in the area and decided to fill that gap. Despite facing internal challenges, Woody was determined to create a space for others to step into.
The store is not just a place to buy hair products — it’s a community hub where customers can come in to talk about problems, solutions, and even social issues like the school system and juvenile justice. Woody’s dedication to providing quality products is evident in the strong vetting process the products go through before being stocked on the shelves.
In a beauty industry where Black-owned businesses make up only a small percentage, Woody is committed to supporting Black-owned and women-owned businesses. The store hosts a variety of businesses and promotes hairstylists, locticians, hair braiders, and makeup artists. Woody’s vision is to become an incubator space for other businesses to feature and grow.
Good Hair Boutique is not just a store — it’s a movement. With plans for group startups and cultural sharing opportunities, Woody is creating a space where people can learn from each other and empower one another. Additionally, Woody started an online support group called “Meaningful Discussions on Race” in 2020 and plans to bring it back in person, providing a platform for discussions on issues impacting Black families and other minorities.
As the beauty industry continues to grow, Good Hair Boutique stands out as a beacon of inclusivity and empowerment. With a mission to uplift and support the community, Woody is making a difference one product at a time.
