Introducing the New Master of Science in Social Responsibility & Impact in Business at UConn’s School of Business

The University of Connecticut’s School of Business is launching an exciting new Master of Science program in Social Responsibility & Impact in Business this fall. With a growing demand for professionals in the field and increasing student interest in making a positive impact on economic, environmental, and social sustainability, this 30-credit program is set to prepare graduates to drive innovative and impactful business decisions for positive social change.

The program, approved by the University’s Board of Trustees, will be led by Gerlinde Berger-Walliser, a business law professor and the academic director of the program. Berger-Walliser emphasizes the need for systemic transformation and broad global impact in addressing the complex issues the world is facing today.

The Marketing Department, headed by Professor Robin Coulter, has already seen success with an undergraduate concentration and minor in Social Responsibility & Impact in Business, attracting students from diverse majors such as business, human rights, communication sciences, economics, and environmental sciences. Coulter praises the dedication and passion of these students in making a difference across multiple disciplines.

The program offers an Accelerated Master of Science option for current UConn undergraduates, allowing them to earn up to 12 credits towards both their undergraduate and master’s degree. This accelerated program can reduce the cost of the master’s degree by up to 40 percent and enables students to complete the program in as little as one year after earning their bachelor’s degree.

Graduates of the program will be equipped to pursue careers as corporate social responsibility managers, marketing strategists, ESG analysts, sustainability consultants, and policy advocates. The program also includes an optional travel-abroad course and flexible course delivery options to accommodate students’ work and personal schedules.

With a focus on legal and ethical considerations, the program aims to prepare students for the evolving expectations of employees and society towards corporate social responsibility. Business law professor Robert Bird highlights the importance of understanding and adhering to ethical principles that may become legal requirements in the future.

Overall, the new Master of Science program in Social Responsibility & Impact in Business at UConn offers a unique opportunity for students from all backgrounds to enhance their careers, gain additional credentials, and make a positive difference in the global society.
