The Economic Impact of the 2025 Osaka World Expo on the Kansai Region

The 2025 Osaka World Expo has the potential to bring about significant economic benefits to the Kansai region, according to Masayoshi Matsumoto, chairman of the Kansai Economic Federation. In a recent interview, Matsumoto highlighted the opportunity to boost the region’s economic importance by leveraging the new technologies and innovations that will be showcased at the expo.

Currently accounting for about 5% of Japan’s gross domestic product, the Kansai region has the potential to see this figure increase to 20% through the utilization of the expo’s legacy, Matsumoto explained. As both chairman of the Kansai Economic Federation and vice chairman of the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition, he emphasized the importance of not only creating an exciting event but also capitalizing on the long-lasting benefits it can bring.

In order for the expo to be successful, Matsumoto stressed the need to focus on both the immediate impact of the event itself and the lasting effects it can have on the region’s economy.
