Elevance Health Partners with Clayton, Dubilier & Rice to Expand Access to Advanced Primary Care

Elevance Health and private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice are joining forces to revolutionize primary care delivery. This strategic partnership aims to provide advanced primary care to nearly 1 million individuals across the country.

By combining segments of Elevance’s Carelon Health division with CD&R’s portfolio companies apree health and Millennium Physician Group, the new joint primary care model will focus on addressing the physical, social, and behavioral health needs of patients through a holistic approach.

The collaboration will empower clinical teams with data analytics, care coordination, and health coaching supports to strengthen relationships between patients and providers. Elevance Health President Bryony Winn emphasized the importance of resourcing and empowering primary care providers to guide consumers through vulnerable moments and take control of their health.

With Carelon Health operating 30 clinics, apree providing digital navigation and clinical advocacy services, and MPG offering a primary care platform with 900 providers, the combined program will have a significant reach. The investment, supported by a mix of cash and Elevance’s equity interest in Carelon Health, is expected to have a positive impact on care delivery innovation.

CD&R operating partner Clay Richards expressed excitement about the partnership and its potential to enhance the patient and physician experience in the communities they serve. This collaboration represents a major step towards advancing primary care delivery and improving healthcare outcomes nationwide.
