Fairfax Crossing: Proposed Mixed-Use Development for Fair Oaks Business Park
Fairfax County’s Fair Oaks Business Park is set to undergo a major transformation, as a Chantilly-based property management company, Peterson Companies, has proposed a 22-acre mixed-use development called Fairfax Crossing. The project aims to replace the existing 1980s office park with 706 housing units, 20,000 square feet of retail space, a 1.6-acre central park, and 2.25 miles of pedestrian walkways.
The development, located at the intersection of Waples Mill Road and Pender Drive, would include 420 multi-family apartments, 286 stacked townhomes, and 140 affordable housing units for those earning 60% of the area median income. The project also features a central park, retail space, and amenities for residents.
One of the unique aspects of the project is the inclusion of Inova’s Kellar School, a therapeutic education program for students in grades 3 through 12 who qualify for special education services. Peterson Companies plans to retain the school’s existing layout and potentially expand the facility in the future.
The proposed Fairfax Crossing development is designed to create a diverse community with a range of housing options and amenities. The project includes public spaces like a central park, pedestrian walkways, and green spaces, as well as connections to potential future developments in the area.
Overall, Fairfax Crossing represents a shift from an outdated office park to a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly community that caters to various demographics. The project has been thoughtfully designed to provide a new public realm and a wide range of housing options, making it an exciting development to watch in the coming months.
