Scott Miller Considered for Interim Finance Director Role in South Pasadena
South Pasadena is considering appointing Scott Miller, a retired municipal finance official with four decades of experience, as its new interim finance director. The city has seen significant turnover in this position since the departure of David Batt in 2018, with Miller potentially becoming the tenth person to take on the role.
The news of Miller’s potential appointment comes as the current Finance Director, John Downs, who had announced his retirement, has been persuaded to stay on in a limited capacity to assist with finalizing the upcoming budget. Downs will focus on specific projects, with the budget being his primary responsibility, as the city aims to adopt the new budget by June 5.
Miller’s impressive background includes serving as the chief financial officer for the city of Beverly Hills, where he helped secure high credit ratings for the city. He has also worked in Broward County, Florida, and with Urban Futures Inc. in California. With a BA in psychology and a PhD in public administration, Miller brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role.
If appointed, Miller will have the challenging task of stabilizing the finance department in South Pasadena and ensuring the city’s financial operations run smoothly. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
